Summary
L’importance du Carlingford Lough et la nécessité d’une gestion environnementale sont démontrées par son statut de protection. Une grande partie de l’estran nord a été désignée comme zone de protection spéciale (ZPS) depuis 1998 pour la reproduction des sternes caugek et pierregarin et l’hivernage (non reproduction) des oies à ventre pâle.
Cette zone est un habitat exclusivement terrestre et se compose principalement de vasières intertidales et de marais salants sur la rive nord du Carlingford Lough et comprend les îles au large de Green Island et Blockhouse ainsi que les îlots associés dans la zone.

This work is funded through the ALICE project: “Improving the management of Atlantic Landscapes: accounting for biodiversity and ecosystem services”. ALICE is a project funded in 75% by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the umbrella of INTERREG Atlantic Area with the application code: EAPA_261/2016. The 11 partners involved in the project are from Portugal, Spain, Northern Ireland, France and the United Kingdom. The three-year project started in November 2017 has cost 3 million euros with 25% covered by the beneficiary partners.
